Did you know that humans share nearly 50% of their DNA with fungi? So the antiviral and antibacterial compounds that they have developed in order to survive, have shown to work on humans as well.
If you had have mentioned that to me 5 years ago, I wouldn’t have understood what you were talking about. I really came to find out about the amazing health benefits of medicinal mushrooms through my own personal health experience. I was mother of 3 young kids, and I was just exhausted. I was convinced I was going straight from having kids into perimenopause because I was having hot flushes, my hormones were all over the place, I had eczema, my face seemed swollen and I had really bad brain fog.
One time, about four years ago, my kids asked me to look at these ‘ears’ that were growing out of their treehouse. I went up and had a look and realised that they were some funky looking mushrooms. I thought I’d do some googling to try and identify what they were. All that kept coming up were research articles on the benefits of mushrooms. The more I tried to identify which ones they were, the more research kept coming up.
I was so exhausted that I was willing and open to try anything to feel better. I was still in my brain fog back then so I can’t remember where or when, but I know I bought some Lion’s Mane powder, which is the mushroom that I learnt was great for the brain. After 2-3 weeks of taking it, I started remembering all the small things I normally forget as I was running out the door in the mornings. I was starting to find my words a little bit quicker. But at the 4 week mark, I distinctly remember the brain fog clearing for the first time in years.
After that I tried Reishi mushrooms to help balance my hormones and then Chaga mushrooms. They had such a remarkable transformation to my health that friends kept commenting and asking what health kick I was on. I was too embarrassed to say I’m drinking mushrooms in my coffee but honestly, over time, that’s what it was. I felt better so I was snacking less. I had more energy, so I started walking more. It all went hand in hand.
That’s when I decided to create TAKe Bio Actives. I really wanted to take what some people see as this alternative therapy and bring it into the mainstream. I’m also a woman in my 40’s and I could see that there are so many collagen and glow powders on the market and I wanted to put it all in one jar. We added therapeutic doses of naturally sourced vitamin B and C which have shown to increase collagen synthesis in your body and reduce oxidative stress. So, this is a great vegan way to stimulate collagen production with the added health benefits from the mushrooms as well.
I was also sick of having lots of different supplements jars taking up my precious kitchen bench space so I spent about 6 months designing custom sustainable packaging that could easily sit next to my coffee machine. I worked with a nutritionist and sourced medicinal mushrooms with the highest nutritional profile from the USA. We had the formulations put together at a TGA approved facility in QLD. We have had the products 3rd party tested and ACO certified to ensure their quality. I wanted to create a product that I loved, that helped me so much, and then to share it with others.
