Last month was hectic at Behind the Brands with having two major events in one week and with our Amna Karra- Hassan event we put together in less than two weeks! Eek..
There was a little bit of pressure and the day before I looked at my hair, and I thought, oh my gosh, I haven’t had a chance to go to the hairdresser, I’ve got so much running around to do today, I have my four-year old with me, we’re about to go dancing…raced down to the shop, got a packet of hair dye, did my hair, haven’t dried it yet, not sure what it will look like, but whatever, I’ll make it to the hairdresser next week. (still haven’it got there…)
I was wondering how I was going to get through my to-do list that day, to get ready for this event, and then another event on Thursday night. Then I thought, you know, I just have to do it!
I’ve decided that when the overwhelm starts to creep in I say screw it and go get a foot massage. I remove myself from the environment and take time out to breath. It’s actually a bad habit I have that when I get annoyed or stressed I hold my breath! If you see me do it, tell me to breathe.
On Monday’s it’s my 4 year old and I (as she tells people “I hang out with Mummy”) and I really try to switch off from work and spend quality time with her as next year she is in school full time and I don’t want to regret not having that time with her.
It is hard when you have young children and a business (or two!) so I’d be really interested in hearing strategies that those of you that are parents use when you’ve got so much to do, but you have a child or children in tow.
Running a business is a tough gig and we need to give ourselves more credit, if it was easy everyone would be doing it.
Take time out for yourself.
xx
