A Limitless Journey To A Fun, Fitness & Nutrition Business
April 14, 2021
If you told me a year ago, I would be running a fun, group fitness community, centred around making fitness for women fun, exciting & energetic, I would have told you that sounds incredible but, how is that possible?
When COVID hit in 2020, I was working in a number of local gyms as a group fitness instructor. I loved it. It was my passion, my purpose & my release. When we were told our last day of classes would indefinitely be on the 25thMarch 2020 due to this new ‘COVID’ virus, though, as you could imagine, I was nervous at the thought of not being able to teach. I had to do something.
I immediately sprang into action, setting up Zoom fitness classes and creating Facebook community where I could communicate with my members and start teaching online; something that I had never done before. I started teaching few group fitness classes to everyone in my online community, and before I knew it, this community had grown to over 200 people and I was running 7 free online group fitness classes every week. Before I knew it, I was offering my classes as part of a monthly subscription, in addition to nutrition workshops & seminars and monthly fitness challenges. In the space of just a few months, I was again doing what I’m passionate about and running my own fitness & nutrition business.
As I write this now, Limitless Fitness & Nutrition(LFN) is a thriving online group fitness community with over 290 members, focused on helping women who are new to or restarting their fitness journey and supporting them with exciting, energetic group fitness classes in an uplifting, supportive environment. There have been a lot of learning’s along the way to get to this point though, some of which I’ll share with you:
Key lessons I’ve learned:
For businesswomen, one of the most important lessons I’ve learnt is if you have an idea, a thought or an inkling, trust your gut and go for it-there’s never going to be a perfect time to do it! Also, don’t worry about what everyone around you is doing, just focus on you. People will come to you and be a part of your community because of who you are, not because of who you’re trying to be.
At LFN and in all my classes, I always am authentically myself. I can’t help it! If you’re like me, be loud, be crazy & just allow yourself to enjoy what you do. Some people will stay for a long time or just a short time, but after a while, you’ll start to build your community more and more with people who resonate with you and what you do.
Another thing is the importance of mentors. I’ve gained so much from being mentored by one of Australia’s best business women over the past few months. It’s vital you get outside perspectives and opinions that will help you grow and shape your business. A mentor may be someone you know personally or someone you reach out to via LinkedIn who you’ve connected with. Either way, invest the time in yourself and watch yourself reach new heights with the help of someone external to you and your business.
Thriving in COVID:
Finally, I wanted to finish off by sharing some of the things that helped LFN thrive during COVID. The most important one is absolutely the concept of community. By community, I mean the online Facebook community I established with my LFN members at the start of COVID. In uncertain times like we’re living in now, people want certainty, routine and connection. A Facebook or online community gives that to people. Work on growing a community that you can connect with daily & build to eventually be able to sell something of value to. For instance, I ran 6 free online group fitness classes a week, every week for 3 months before I introduced paid monthly subscriptions for my members. The trust you build in your community will be vital for keeping your members connected & allowing you to grow your business.
Also, don’t forget the importance of good communication! If you have a community or a subscription group, be sure you stay in touch with them so they know you care. Whether it’s posting daily in your Facebook group, sending weekly emails or tagging your members in group photos; whatever it is, make your members feel special by you putting in the time to keep in touch.
Going forward, remember, business is fun and we’re doing what we do because we’re passionate about it. Enjoy the ride, believe in yourself and be authentically you throughout the process. Your community will come to you, when you’re exactly yourself.
Also, remember, you are limitless & there’s nothing you cannot achieve.
